HURIWA Lauds Ugwuanyi 's Economic Strides, Employment

The Chairmen of the seventeen Local Government Areas of Enugu State, under the aegis of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON) said they paid over N6.7 million hospital bills of discharged indigent patients and donated food items to orphanages and correctional centres in the state, worth over N7 million, during Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s 57th birthday, in keeping with the governor’s aged-long tradition of celebrating the annual event.

Throwing more light on the humanitarian gesture, the State Chairman of ALGON, Hon. Solomon Izuchukwu Onah, who is the Council Chairman of Udenu LGA and National Publicity Secretary of the association, pointed out that Gov. Ugwuanyi has consistently celebrated his birthday with prisoners, orphans, the sick and the elderly since he assumed office in 2015. The council chairman added that it was a rare display of the governor’s uncommon philanthropy, and identification with the needy and the less privileged.

Onah explained that the council chairmen visited Bishop Shanahan Hospital Nsukka; Children’s Orphanage in Ibeku Opi; Enugu Correctional Centre; Nsukka Correctional Centre; Ezeagu Correctional Centre; Mother of Christ Hospital in Enugu and Enugu Cheshire Home, among others.

He disclosed that they paid the hospital bills of twelve persons who had been discharged from Bishop Shanahan Hospital, Nsukka but were unable to offset the bills, to the admiration of doctors, nurses and the beneficiaries.

At the orphanages, the Cheshire homes and the correctional centres, the council chairmen donated various food items to the inmates.

“We are here as ALGON, Enugu State chapter to identify with you in honour of our dear governor, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi who is celebrating his 57th birthday.

“As you all know, he has always been here on the occasions of his birthday celebrations to ask after your wellbeing, to pray with you and to rejoice with you. It is in the same spirit that we have come here today”,” Onah told the inmates.

Leading his colleagues from one place to the other, the ALGON boss had the same message: “Our governor is not used to throwing parties and dining with the wealthy during his birthdays. Rather, he often prefers to be with the less privileged. We (ALGON members) have decided to follow the footsteps of the governor and to be with you. We have also come to ask you to always remember him in your prayers.”

An elated Bishop Shanahan Hospital Administrator, Rev. Fr. Greg Onah was full of praises that the council chairmen settled the bills of twelve discharged patients, saying that it was a thing of joy that they were emulating Gov. Ugwuanyi.

According to Rev. Fr. Onah, “what you people have done as Enugu ALGON members is quite remarkable and commendable. Gov. Ugwuanyi has not failed to identify with the less privileged in the society each birthday circle. That singular act has distinguished him as a rare humanist and philanthropist. So, I thank you (ALGON members) for emulating him and settling the bills of these persons in honour of our governor’s birthday.

“I must tell you that the governor has been surprising us each year. This year’s own is not an exception. Our prayers are that the Almighty God will continue to bless him and his family, give him sound health and the resources to continue to deliver good governance to our people.”
At the Enugu Correctional Centre, the Deputy Controller, Mr. Kolawole lauded Governor Ugwuanyi for associating with the poor in the society. As he put it, “I’ve been here for more than one year, and I am happy to note that Governor Ugwuanyi has kept faith with visiting us and donating vital items to us on the occasion of his birthday. He did it last year and today, you people (LG Chairmen) are here on his behalf. Do extend our gratitude to him as we wish him a momentous birthday.”

A yet-to-be-identified serial killer is currently on the prowl in the Remo axis of Ogun, the state police command has warned.

In a statement on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer in Ogun, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said “the modus operandi of the serial killer is to pretend as a commercial motorcyclist popularly known as okada rider and pick his targeted victim as a passenger.”

Such victims, Oyeyemi said, are mainly women, who would be “taken to an isolated area, raped and brutally murdered in cold blood.”

According to the police spokesperson, the command is making efforts to apprehend the hoodlum; adding however, that it is necessary to alert the public to be on their guard and be wary of any okada rider with whom they want to embark on a journey, especially at night.

“For safety reasons, the command hereby advises that passengers should endeavour to demand the phone number of any okada rider who wants to carry them in the night.

“They should also make a call to such a number to ascertain its authenticity.

“This will give security agencies a lead in their investigation in the event of any untoward development,” Oyeyemi advised.

Where Is Anochie Fidel Ezechukwu ?

Where Is Anochie Fidel Ezechukwu ?

By Ijeoma F.
This is Mr Anochie Ezechukwu, known as ‘Wiselabour’. On Tuesday the 2nd of August, 2022, he woke up like every other hard-working, responsible family man and went about his normal business. He runs a bar/relaxation spot at his home town in Ukpor, Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State. His business has been boosting the economy of his community in its little way…

Mr. Ezechukwu was preparing for the day’s business when Men of the Nigerian Army and other security forces in full uniform with about 20 vehicles in convoy invaded his business premises and totally destroyed his bar! They tied him up like a ram about to be slaughtered, inflicted some injuries on him and took him away to an unknown destination.

Note that in all these, Mr. Ezechukwu was never on the run, never had any criminal questions/allegations/records on his head, was not in hiding, and never gave any form of resistance to the arrest. So why tie him up like a chicken? Why trample on his human dignity? Why strip him naked him and reduce him to nothingness? Why destroy his place of business? WHY, WHY, WHY?

Till date none of his family members, wife, friends have been able to locate him

The accusation against Mr. Ezechukwu is that unknown gunmen may be patronizing his business….Like how on Earth are we reduced to this level in this country? How can the offence of someone who manages a bar/relaxation spot be that “Unknown gunmen” come to take a drink in his establishment?

These are supposed to be UNKNOWN gunmen right? So if they are unknown to the army and all the security formations whose job it is to catch them , then how come these security formations that know these unknown gunmen and the fact that they visit Mr. Ezechukwu’s place of business left the unknown gunmen and more or less “kidnapped” Mr. Ezechukwu? Something is not right!

This fate that has befallen Mr Ezechukwu is duplicated all over South East. You are an endangered species if you are a young man living in any part of the South East especially in Imo and some parts of Anambra.

The general public should please come to the aid of the family. Help me ask questions. Where is Mr. ANOCHIE FIDEL EZECHUKWU? HQ Nigerian Army , Nigerian police , members of civil societies, ordinary Nigerians, the masses help us please.

The life of Mr. Ezechukwu, a responsible hardworking Nigerian must not be wasted just like that. He is a family man. His wife must not be made a widow for no just cause.

All the family ask is that they know his whereabouts. It is his constitutional right to be entitled to fair hearing, and be treated with dignity no matter the allegation. He has the right to his family and legal representation!
