Nollywood Actress, Funke 'Jenifa' Akindele Named Lagos State PDP Deputy Gubernatorial Candidate

Multiple award-winning Nollywood actress and entrepreneur, Funke Akindele better known as Jenifa in the home series ‘Jenifa’s diary’, has been named among the five candidates shortlisted by the Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as a potential running mate to Alhaji Abdulaziz Olajide Adediran popularly known as Jandor by the main opposition party

Others on the  list are former governorship Aspirants, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour and David Kolawole Vaughan known as DAKOVA, former Senatorial candidate for Lagos East, Yeye Shobajo and Engr. Teslim Balogun.

Funke’s nomination is coming days after a  colleague Tonto Dikeh was nominated by the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Mr. Tonte Ibraye as his running  mate in Rivers State.

Nollywood Loses Another Ace Filmmaker, Otu Njama

The Nigerian film industry Nollywood has been thrown into mourning once again following the death of another filmmaker,  Otu Njama.

This comes barely 24hours after the death of his colleague, Biyi Bandele,  on August 7.

According to reports,  Otu Njama was found dead at about 9pm in his home in First Unity estate in Badore, Ajah, Lagos state, on August 9.

The story surrounding his death says the filmmaker had visited his doctor for a check- up prior to his death and was told to take a rest because he had a high blood pressure.

Njama reportedly declined the advice, stating that he had a show billed for tomorrow August 11.

Further reports say that after he took a meal and retired to his home that night, his body was  later discovered .

His sister reportedly said a drug was found in his apartment and a check on Google showed it was for blood pressure. She stated that her brother never told her about his health issues.

How Armed Robbers Raided, Demanded N20m From Saka

The home of veteran Nollywood actor cum lecturer, Hafiz Oyetoro popularly called Saka was yesterday attacked by robbers in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

This was confirmed by the actor’s friend, Kayode Soaga in  a statement on Tuesday.

According to Soaga, “The robbers broke into his (Saka’s) home at about 2 am. Heavily armed with pump action guns, matchetes, breaking in tools,” while his  security guards were tied down and demobilised.

“Three other houses on the street were robbed with more devastating effect. They broke the burglary proof and went straight to him demanding N20 million or his life. Threatening to kill and destroy.

“He (Saka) begged and pleaded. They later came down to N3 million which he said he doesn’t have. They dazed him with a resounding slap etc. The armed robbers packed all Android phones, iPhones laptops and all available cash in the home. Also collected all ATM cards. The robbers came with POS to empty money in accounts.

“Saka’s security guards were demobilised while the guards of his neighbors were not too lucky as they were shot several times in the arms. We thank almighty GOD for Saka’s life as he’s doing fine.”

The 59-year-old actor who is married to Olaide Oyetoro is said to be doing fine with his family after the shocking incident.

Director Of Blood Sisters, Biyi Bandele Is Dead

Nigerian playwright,  novelist and director of Nollywood blockbuster movie,  ‘Blood Sisters’, Biyi Bandele is dead.

His death was announced by his daughter, Temi Bandele, via a statement posted on her Facebook page on Monday night.

A heartbroken Timi who disclosed that the 54-year-filmmaker died on Sunday in Lagos State wrote: “As Biyi’s Daughter, I am heartbroken to share the sudden and unexpected death on Sunday 7th of August in Lagos of my father, Biyi Bandele.

“Biyi was a prodigiously talented writer and filmmaker, as well as a loyal friend and beloved father. He was a storyteller to his bones, with an unblinking perspective, singular voice and wisdom which spoke boldly through all of his art, in poetry, novels, plays and on screen. He told stories which made a profound impact and inspired many all over the world. His legacy will live on through his work.

“He was taken from us much too soon. He had already said so much so beautifully and had so much more to say. We wish everyone to please respect the privacy of his family and friends as we grieve his loss,” she added.

Also, while commiserating with the deceased’s family,  EbonyLife Group CEO and executive producer of ‘Blood Sisters’, Mo Abudu, said “Biyi worked with us at EbonyLife Media, directing several of our projects, including ‘Fifty’ (2015), ‘Blood Sisters’, episodes 1 & 2 (2022) and the forthcoming film Elesin Oba, The King’s Horseman, for which he wrote the screenplay.”

She added that “Elesin Oba will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September. Biyi had an eye for a story, was always passionate about his work, and had a great love for Yoruba culture.”

Biyi will always be remembered for his role as director of great movies such as ‘Half of a yellow Sun’, ‘Blood Sisters’, ‘Fifty’, ‘Nigerian Prince’ and the soon-to-be-released ‘Elesin Oba’ on Netflix.
