APC Senators Wish Osinbajo Well In Presidential Race

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Tuesday night got the best wishes of the All Progressives Congress (APC) caucus in the Senate in his quest to be the nation’s president.

Osinbajo formally joined the 2023 presidential race on Monday.

On Tuesday, he hosted the legislators to Iftar dinner at his official residence at Aguda House within the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The meeting held behind closed doors but the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan who led the APC senators to the Villa told reporters what transpired.

“We had Iftar dinner with His Excellency, the Vice President and thereafter we had a brief interaction on our government and of course on the Vice President’s declaration to run for the presidency of our great country, the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” Lawan said.

When pressed further, Lawan said: “naturally, the Vice President told us that he has expressed his interest and that he wanted to consult with the Senate APC caucus.

“He wanted us to hear from his mouth and we did and he was seeking our support in whatever way we can at the appropriate time and we wish the Vice President good luck in this endeavour.

“But let me assure everyone that the Senate APC caucus and indeed the National Assembly caucus of the APC will continue to work very hard for our great party, the APC, to continue to provide services to Nigerians and also work hard to ensure that by 2023, the next administration is an APC administration at the center and majority of the States in our country, by the Grace of God will be APC.”

How We'll Pick Presidential Candidate To Support - Northern Elders

The Northern Elders Forum has explained how it will arrive at the choice of the presidential candidate northerners will support in 2023 election.

The elders said that they would subject all the major 2023 presidential candidates to rigorous scrutiny to ascertain their goals before endorsing any of them.

The spokesman of NEF, Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, who stated this on Sunday while featuring on Channels Television, disclosed that they have the responsibility of telling the entire northerners who to vote.

He said unlike in 2015, when they told northerners to vote for President Muhammadu Buhari without finding out what he aimed to achieve, the group would scrutinize Peter Obi of the Labour Party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress, and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, flag bearer, Atiku Abubakar until the NEF is convinced about who can fix the country.

According to him, the 2023 election would “no longer be about fixing the economy, security and the fight against Boko Haram,” stating that the candidates must be specific on what they aim to achieve if they win the election.

He said, “We will subject all candidates, including Atiku, Tinubu, Obi, through a rigorous process, and they had better be willing because, believe me, we carry the responsibility on our shoulders to advise people in the north where to go.

“I am not saying this to impress anybody. We will exercise that responsibility seriously.

“What we promise not to do this time around was not to repeat what we did in 2015 and say ‘Vote for only Sai Baba’ where we escort him to the villa but failed to sit him down and ask what he planned to do.”
