Edo Governor Godwin Obaseki has lost the control of the Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP) in the state to Vice Chairman, South-South of the party, Chief Dan Orbih.

The residence of former Edo deputy governor, Dr Pius Odubu situated at Dennis Osadebey Avenue GRA in Benin City was demolished by the state government on Tuesday.

Odubu was a deputy governor to former Governor Adam Oshiomhole .

The property was being occupied by the younger brother to Odubu as at the time of the demolition.

Also destroyed were properties belonging to a former Secretary to State Government (SSG) and current member representing Owan Federal Constituency, Professor Julius Ihonvbere and that of sports marketer, Mike Etemuagbo.

Odubu described the incident as unfortunate adding the matter was already before the court of law after the government announced the revocation of the Certificate of Occupancy which he said he read in a newspaper publication.

“The information came to me this afternoon, March 23, that my property situated at Dennis Osadebe avenue has been brought down by agents of the government on the directive of the governor.

“Before now, my attention was brought to a publication in the Observer newspaper in January that the C of O of my property has been revoked without prior notice given to me.

“I went to court in the matter and I am surprised that after they have been served, the government still went ahead to bring down my house with a bulldozer. “My younger one was in the house when it was brought down and they did not give them notice nor allow to remove any of their property before destroying the place,” he said.

The wife of his younger brother, Mrs Precious Odubu who narrated the incident to newsmen, said at about 4:00 p.m., she sighted policemen who came into the compund through another entrance and she approached them to inquire about their mission.

“The way they came in, not through the main gate, I was afraid and asked about their mission and they told me that they wanted to demolish the house and if there were children in the building they should be brought out. “Without even waiting for my response, they just brought in their buldozers and started destroying the house without allowing us to remove our property” she stated.

As at the time of this report, there was no official response from the government yet.

Why I Stopped Using Social Media - Tinubu
President Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday assured Nigerians that the removal of subsidy would not be immediate and that they should stop panic buying of petroleum.

The president’s position was stated by the Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Media Centre.

In a statement, the centre urged the public to relax panic-buying that has ensued as a result of his speech.

The statement explained the development is neither new nor an action of his new administration.

The Tweet reads: “The public is advised to note that President Bola Tinubu’s declaration that “subsidy is gone” is neither a new development nor an action of his new administration.

“He was merely communicating the status quo, considering that the previous administration’s budget for fuel subsidy was planned and approved to last for only the first half of the year.

“Effectively, this means that by the end of June, the Federal Government will be without funds to continue the subsidy regime, translating to its termination.

“The panic-buying that has ensued as a result of the communication is needless; it will not take immediate effect.

“Furthermore, President Tinubu was clear about his plans to re-channel the funds previously devoted to the payment of subsidies into better investments that will cushion the effects of the removal on the general public, especially the poor of the poor. This includes but is not limited to investments in public infrastructure, education, healthcare and jobs that will materially improve the lives of millions of Nigerians and increase their earning potential.”
